How to install CalBurndown on iPhone

Add the app to your iPhone Home Screen in three taps. Unlocks full-screen mode, offline access, and push notifications.

CalBurndown runs as a Progressive Web App on iPhone — same code as the website, but it installs to your Home Screen and behaves like a native app. You don't need to wait for our iOS app to ship: installation takes about ten seconds.

What you get by installing

  • Full-screen — no Safari address bar eating your chart
  • Home Screen icon — one tap to open, no URL typing
  • Push notifications — reminders without keeping a tab open (iOS 16.4+ only)
  • Offline access — log meals on the subway; they sync when you reconnect

Steps

You need Safari, not Chrome or Firefox. Apple restricts PWA install to its own browser.

  1. Open calburndown.com in Safari on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen — the square with an arrow pointing up.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Adjust the name if you want, then tap Add in the top right.

You'll see a CalBurndown icon on your Home Screen. Open it from there — not from Safari — to get the full-screen experience.

Enabling push notifications (iOS 16.4+)

Push notifications only work when launched from the Home Screen icon, not from Safari. After installing:

  1. Open CalBurndown from the Home Screen icon.
  2. Tap Settings in the bottom nav.
  3. Scroll to Reminders and tap Enable push on this device.
  4. Allow notifications when prompted.
  5. Tap Send test to confirm it works.

If you're on iOS 16.3 or older, push isn't supported yet — update to the latest iOS first.

Troubleshooting

"Add to Home Screen" doesn't appear — make sure you're in Safari, not Chrome. Apple disables PWA install in other browsers.

The app opens in Safari, not full-screen — you tapped a calburndown.com link instead of the Home Screen icon. Open it directly from the icon.

Push permission was blocked — Settings (iOS) → CalBurndown → Notifications → Allow.
